Art, Design and Technology

Art , Design and Technology is a vital part of the Primary curriculum as it provides a means of expression for all children, regardless of their competence in verbal and written communication. Encouraging children to share and explore through Art and Design enables them to be creative while also learning key skills.  Children explore line, shape pattern and colour through a variety of mediums.

Art and Design is a practical subject which stimulates creativity and imagination through the use of a wide range of materials. It is very effective as a cross-curricular link, adding to children’s experiences and depth of understanding in other areas of their  learning, from creating their own artwork and artefacts to the experience of museum and gallery trips

Currently we use a themed approach, Cornerstones (https://cornerstoneseducation.co.uk/) We are developing a curriculum which enables children to work individually and collaboratively while developing a technical art and design vocabulary.  Children will be encouraged to gain a sense of pride and achievement in their own work and take pleasure in sharing it with a wider audience.

Over the course of a year, at Marden Lodge we aim to develop children’s understanding of colour, form, texture, pattern and their ability to use materials and processes to communicate ideas, feelings and meanings.  We hope that children are able to identify and appreciate the work of other artists which reflect diversity while developing their awareness that the process of creating art is equally as valuable as the finished product.
