History
History plays a key role at Marden Lodge. Children will build knowledge and understanding of people, events and contexts from a range of historical periods. They will think critically about events and communicate ideas to a range of audiences in a variety of ways. Children will reflect and discuss events from the past which will build a passion for history and enthusiasm for the subject. By learning about the past, we can influence children’s choices, attitudes and values.
History should be fun, engaging and be accessible to all pupils. It should build curiosity and stimulate questions.
Recently, we have created a curriculum which is more relevant to our pupils, utilizes the local area and addresses the needs of the Marden Lodge pupil.
In the EYFS topics are closely linked to children’s lives and experiences. KS1 pupils build on their previous learning and start learning about specific events and dates in history. Pupils in KS2 explore key points in history and begin to understand the key people, places and events during those time periods. Importantly, in all KS2 topics, timelines are created to enable children to understand chronology and recognise patterns.
