A Typical Day at Marden Lodge

Our playground is open from 8:40 a.m. in the morning, but the bell rings for the start of the school day at 8:50 a.m. Parents and carers are asked to wait with their children until the teacher has collected them.

Initially the children will come into the classroom and choose an activity to complete with you for the first 5 to 10 minutes – this could be from writing their name, to threading beads, to making patterns. Registers are taken at 9:00 a.m. and we ask that you leave by that time.

During the morning the children will have short teaching sessions together, and opportunities for self-initiated learning, in both the inside and outside learning environments. Children’s learning is supported by the teacher and the learning support assistant.

To begin with the children don’t have a ‘play time’, but they do have an opportunity during the morning to have fruit (and milk). Lunchtime starts at 11:50 a.m. The children have their own lunchtime supervisor. Children in Year 1 and 2 join them in the lunch hall at 12:00 p.m. At about 12:20 p.m the children go out with KS1 children for playtime, coming back to their classroom at 12:50 p.m.

During the afternoon children will continue to learn through their play, with activities engaging and developing their curiosity and problem solving skills. The day ends at 3:10p.m. Children are collected from their own outdoor leaning environment.

Children will start to join school assemblies and playtime for KS1 during the Autumn term, when they are ready.
